YOU MUST BE A REGISTERED PARISHIONER TO REQUEST A BAPTISM.
Please complete a Parishioner Registration under the Tab above as an initial step. The Baptismal Planning and Preparation process for New Parish families takes several weeks including processing Parish Registraion (if applicable), Pre-Jordan completion, and obtaining Godparent Letters of Eligibility from other parishes. Baptisms are held immediately following 11:00 AM Mass on each Second Sunday of the Month.
We are unable to confirm a Baptismal Date until all of the following are submitted/complete.
Please read below carefully.
PRAYERFULLY CONSIDER GODPARENTS that are actively practicing Catholics, and have them request a Letter of Eligibility
from the parish where they are members as soon as possible (if not from our parish). See below for Eligibility Requirements.
At least one Godparent, fully initiated Catholic and registered in a parish, is required. Eligible Catholic Godparent(s) are:
- fully initiated Catholic (having received the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation).
- practicing Catholic, meaning, they are regularly attending Mass and receiving Sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Penance;
- validly married if applicable, or living in conformity with Church teaching
- 16 years or older.
CHRISTIAN WITNESS: While it is preferable to have Catholics stand as Godparents,
it is possible that one person who is not a Catholic but is baptized as a Christian,
and is practicing their Christian faith, to stand as a Christian Witness.
An Eligible Christian Witness must be:
- 16 years or older;
- Fully initiated in the Christian faith as prescribed by the Christian church where
they are members
- Practicing their Christian Faith regularly
- Able to provide a letter of recommendation from their pastor to stand as a Christian Witness for baptism.
Please Note Well:
An inactive Catholic, that is, a baptized Catholic
who is not practicing their faith
and not a participating member of a parish
and therefore cannot acquire a Letter of Eligibility,
cannot be a Christian Witness.
Also, a non-baptized or non-Christian person
cannot stand as a Christian Witness.
ON THE DATE OF YOUR CHILD'S BAPTISM
Please attend 11:00 AM Mass and invite your family members!
Family and Friends are encouraged to attend your child’s baptism, this is a wonderful Sacrament of Initiation - Please invite them to attend Mass! Visitors unable to attend Mass are welcome to wait outside of Church while mass is being said, and the congregation has exited the church. There is no set time that mass ends, therefore we ask the Godparents, parents and their child to be present and attend the 11:00 AM Mass so the Baptism may begin promptly when mass ends.
We respectfully ask that if guests are not attending Mass, please do not to wait in the vestibule of Church while Mass is being said. The congregation will be exiting the church between, and the tables and chairs in the vestibule are used for parish functions before and after Mass. Those guests not attending Mass may enter the church for your child’s baptism after the Mass is over. Please do not bring food and/or drinks into church.
There is a restroom in the church vestibule and our church is handicapped accessible. Handicapped parking is in front of church, and also adjacent to the ramp in front of the lower school building. There is a break in center of church in the pews for the disabled and wheelchair access. Strollers may be kept in the church vestibule or rear of church, and clear of the aisles. The church is not air conditioned.
Manayunk is a busy place! Please be aware of the No Parking areas, Curb Cuts, and crosswalks. The Philadelphia Parking Authority is very efficient and unfortunately tickets violators. Also, no parking is permitted along the Cresson Street Wall, marked "No Parking Any Time". After the 11:00 AM Mass ends tickets have been issued. (As a courtesy, Mass Visitors have permission to park there during Mass, but must move the cars immediately afterward.)
There is a parking lot behind the Parish Rectory, spots are first come first serve. Handicapped only spots are available adjacent to church in front of the lower school buildling marked with signs. There are also several handicapped parking spots in front of church. Please do not double park in the lot or in reserved spots in the church parking lot, or block other cars. Thank you.
