In order to provide a Letter of Eligibility signed from the Pastor you must be currently attending St. John's and registered for at least six months in the parish, along with meeting the Canonical Requirements for Catholics Eligible to Stand as Sponsor or Godparent.  Please read carefully below.




A Letter of Eligibility from the Pastor is an official statement that You are eligibile to serve as Godparent as you truthfully:

  1. Are 16 years of age or older,
  2. Are fully initiated by having received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation and Sacramental Marriage in the Catholic Church (if requester is a Married person);
  3. Participate in Sunday Mass, regular reception of the sacraments of Penance and Holy Eucharist, and parish life
  4. Are living in conformity with church teaching in Married / Single life (not cohabitating)


    An inactive Catholic

    that is, 
    a baptized Catholic who is not practicing their faith,
    and not a participating member of the parish,
    therefore cannot acquire a Letter of Eligibility.


Again, this letter acknowledges that you are a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, are a practicing Catholic, are at least 16 years of age, Confirmed, (married in the Catholic Church if applicable), and have been an Active and participating member of the parish for at least six months.  


Requests must be made no less than two weeks in advance by calling 215-482-4600, or by e-mailing  Requests are generally reviewed by the Pastor within a few days of your request.

Please include your name, phone number, the name of the person/child you are sponsoring, and the parish requesting the letter.
