Time and Talent

“I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things.”

                                                                    - Saint (Mother) Teresa of Calcutta

On April 4, 1831, St. John the Baptist Parish was dedicated through the benficence of Eulalia and Jerome Keating, and became the "Mother Church" to the small milltown of Manayunk, and the surrounding community, as the tenth oldest parish in the City of Philadelphia.

Soon afterward, surrounding parishes emerged in Manayunk - St. Mary of the Assumption, Holy Family, St. Josaphat, and St. Lucy Parishes, in existence beginning in 1849 until the Archdiocesan Pastoral Planning Initiative in 2012.  Although St. Josaphat, St. Mary of the Assumption, and St. John the Baptist were merged, and St. Lucy parish also merged with Holy Family through this initiative.  For over 190 years, as neighbors in a Catholic Community, parishioners have continued to be the stewards, through God's grace, work, prayer, and sacrifice, by welcoming you, and those establishing roots in the family and community, and continuing the time honored traditions of Manayunk Catholics for generations, and for the future.

According to Wikipedia:
Stewardship is a theological belief that humans are responsible for the world, and should take care and look after it. Believers in stewardship are usually people who believe in one God who created the universe and all that is within it, also believing that they must take care of creation and look after it. Wikipedia
